artist biography
Ulla-Britt Elisabet Ekman-Dahlbäck ,was born on February 18, 1924 in Malmö. d She was a Swedish painter and print maker.
Ekman-Dahlbäck studied at the Skånska målarskolan (Skåne Painting School) from 1942 to 1943, and decade later at Essemskolan (The Essem School) in Malmö 1955 and 1956. She painted in the oil in cubist style and developed over time a very personal style incorporating dream-like narratives and symbolic ornamentation with humanistic and mythical influences, her later work often executed in chalk. Her inspiration came from poetry and warm colours which she imbued from recurring trips to the Mediterranean, Italy and France.
She participated in a number of solo and collective exhibitions in Malmö and across Sweden including shows Ystad's konstmuseum (art museum) in 1970, annually at Liljevalch's yearly ’Vårsalonger' (Spring Salons) where she first exhibited in 1968, Skånes konstförening (Skåne's Art Association exhibitions), Småland's museum in 1977. Ekman-Dahlbäck was active for a long time in the Konstnärernas Samarbetsorganisation (Artists' Cooperation Organization) (KSO) with recurring exhibitions held at the at Malmö Malmö Rådhushall (Town Hall).
Examples of her work are held in public collection in Sweden including the Malmö City collection, Stockholm City collection, Region Skåne, Stockholm County Council, Halland County Council, Statens konstråd (State Art Council), and the Ystad Art Museum. She produced public art works at the Idrottsmuseet (Sports Museum) in Malmö and at the Skandia House in Stockholm.
