We have had this medal in our store for years in storage.  They are new-old-stock.  This Medal is for any honorable active duty service anywhere during any of the qualifying dates below. (Reserves After 8 Oct 1991) On 8 October 1991, President Bush issued an Executive Order authorizing award of the medal to all members of the Reserve forces whether or not on active duty. Until 1987, Army only used a bronze oak leaf cluster to denote an additional award.

1. Instituted: 1953.
2. Qualifying Dates: 1950-54 (Korean War period), 1961-74 (Vietnam War Period) , 1990-95 (Persian Gulf War Period), 2001-TBD (War on Terror period)
3. Often abbreviated on a DD214 as NDSM
